What is PPI?

PPI is insurance that pays out a sum of money to help cover your repayments on your credit card under certain situations.

The actual events covered by your policy will depend upon the level of cover that you have purchased, and you should always refer to your policy terms and conditions for confirmation of your level of cover and exclusions (what isn’t covered). MBNA no longer sells Payment Protection Insurance (PPI). However, some customers still have active policies on their accounts.

If you are interested in purchasing protection for your existing credit agreements, then please refer to the MoneyHelper for guidance.

LifestyleProtect has benefits, including covering your credit card payments if you're out of work due to accident, sickness or involuntary unemployment, are hospitalised, become a carer or loss of life. LifestyleProtect could also help you with life events, like having a baby, getting married or purchasing a main home.  Please check your LifestyleProtect policy document for more information.

How do I know if I have PPI?

An easy way to understand if you have an active PPI policy, is to check your monthly credit card account statements for the record of premiums you have paid. It will appear as a separate transaction on your monthly credit card statement.

We provide an annual review statement for all active LifestyleProtect policies that have been charged a premium within the last 12 months. It provides a summary on the level of cover and the cost of premiums, helping you to assess if the policy still meets your needs.

You may still hold the documentation given to you when you purchased PPI, such as a policy document or policy schedule. If not, you can review and download a copy of the MBNA PPI terms and conditions (PDF, 279KB).

Or if you don’t have these, you can call us to request a copy of your policy documents by post.
