What happens once you’re approved?
Let's start with a thank you
We really appreciate you choosing an MBNA credit card or loan ... if you’ve just been approved, thanks for being on board.
Approved for a personal loan?
In most cases, the money will be in your account within 24 working hours. It can sometimes take up to 5 working days if we have to do a few extra checks.
Approved for a credit card?
You’ll get everything you need to get up and running in the next 7 working days, including your card and PIN. Once it arrives, you’ll need to activate your card online, on your mobile or by giving us a call.
Managing your personal loan
You won’t receive monthly loan statements as your repayments are fixed for the term of the loan. However, you will get an annual statement, and you can call us for transaction details, or if you need to get in touch with us about anything.
Managing your credit card
You can keep track, make payments, and manage your credit card accounts using Online Services. You can register once you’ve activated your card, if you’ve not already.
If you like doing things on the go, you might also be interested in the MBNA Mobile App, so you can manage your account on your smartphone.
Transfers with your new credit card
A balance transfer makes it easy to move a balance from another credit or store card to your MBNA credit card, while a money transfer allows you to transfer funds to your bank or building society account.
It’s easy to request a transfer online, on your mobile or by giving us a call. You can transfer up to 93% of your credit limit and there’s usually a fee payable. If you’re outside your terms and conditions, this option might not always be available.
Credit card payments
Most credit card accounts are automatically set up with paperless statements, which you can also check by logging in. Look out for your first credit card statement - it’ll include details of your first repayment and when it’s due by.
An easy way to manage your monthly repayments is by Direct Debit. Once it’s in place, we’ll take the amount you choose from your nominated bank or building society account every month. It’s done automatically, so as long as there are funds available, you’ll never miss a repayment.
It’s easy to set up a Direct Debit for your credit card account online, or by giving us a call. You might have to use another way to pay until your statement shows your Direct Debit is set up. And, of course, you can make additional repayments on top of your Direct Debit anytime you like, but please be aware we may still collect your Direct Debit in full.
Personal loan repayments
As part of your application you’ll have been asked to set up a Direct Debit to cover your fixed monthly loan repayments, but you can make additional debit card repayments at any time to reduce your interest costs and the loan term.
You can make as many debit card repayments as you like, but be aware you’ll be charged up to 58 days’ interest if you settle the loan early.
To make a repayment with your debit card, please call us. It’ll be applied to your account on the working day we receive it.
